How is your heart? How is the texture of your life? I sometimes wonder what it would be like if we started with these kinds of questions.

Aimless Love
Rumi once said that our task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within that we have built against it. I ran a photography workshop on this theme over the summer and here’s the poem, Aimless Love, that we kicked off with.

The Beauty of Bark
From cinnamon to cork to chewing gum to rubber, every tree has a special bark. French photographer Cedric Pollet has created a stunning work of art on this subject.

Taking 20min Holidays
I’ve been thinking a lot recently about switching to a “dumbphone”, in order to spend less time on social media. This short video is about a man on a simple errand across town without a smartphone and with a disposable camera.

Exhibition: I Want to Live
Daniel Regan has photographed some of the volunteers that work for an amazing suicidal sanctuary in London. Each story is an inspiration. The exhibition is on until the 12th of October in Kentish Town.

Group visit to the “Shape of Light” exhibition followed by a creative session making our own abstract photography on a personal theme. You can also come directly for the creative session at 12pm, and see the exhibition afterwards.

Re:Centre: Beauty in Imperfection
There is a wonderful new wellness centre in London, by the river in Hammersmith, that has asked us to run some mindful photowalks with them.

One of the warm-ups we often do in our workshops is to photograph something that is deeply familiar to us, like the back of our hands. As we start to look, people usually find it starts to look strangely unfamiliar.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on any of the above – just hit reply. One of the reasons I started this newsletter is that it feels a little more private and ephemeral than social media, a place to connect more meaningfully.
